Supersound Music Schools Open in Phnom Penh

Supersound Music Schools Open in Phnom Penh

Supersound, a company operating new music schools in Phnom Penh, is about to open its locations.

Founded by Antoine Fontaine, the company has secured locations previously held by Soundskool Music, in Boeng Keng Kang 1 (street 306) and Toul Kork (streety 315).

Both campuses will teach the same lessons, so families can choose the one closest to home. The timetable covers piano (private and group), violin, saxophone, guitar, bass and ukulele, drums and voice, a choir, bands and a music theory courses, with more planned shortly.

The piano began in Florence around 1700, when Bartolomeo Cristofori built a keyboard that could play soft and loud, piano e forte, and the name stuck. The violin took its shape in Cremona, in the workshops of the Amati, Guarneri and Stradivari families. The do-re-mi every beginner sings goes back to Guido of Arezzo, an Italian monk from the eleventh century, and the words printed on the page (allegro, andante, crescendo) are Italian too.

Audiences in Cambodia are also getting used to hearing Italian music live. The country has staged four Italian-language operas since 2018: Cavalleria Rusticana, Pagliacci, Madama Butterfly and, in December 2025, Mozart's Don Giovanni, with young players from the Angkor Youth Orchestra Association in the orchestra and Khmer dancers on stage. That is where a school like Supersound comes in, and why its piano, violin and voice lessons are worth watching.
