The December Classical Series concludes the year with a breathtaking recital featuring two towering works of the piano repertoire—each offering a distinct musical journey in scope, expression, and imagination.

The program opens with Maurice Ravel’s Miroirs (“Reflections”), a five-movement suite that exemplifies the composer’s mastery of color, texture, and atmosphere. Each movement—dedicated to a fellow artist in the avant-garde circle "Les Apaches"—evokes a different scene or image, from fluttering nocturnal moths to distant bells tolling in a Spanish town. The music blurs the boundaries between dream and reality, offering a rich palette of impressionistic sounds and technical refinement.

The recital continues with Franz Schubert’s Wanderer Fantasy in C major, D. 760—one of the most ambitious and innovative piano compositions of the early 19th century. Unfolding across four interconnected movements played without pause, the work is both a structural and emotional tour de force. Built on a theme from Schubert’s own song Der Wanderer, the Fantasy shifts seamlessly between lyrical introspection and virtuosic brilliance, culminating in a powerful finale.

Together, these two works close the 2025 season with music that is at once intellectually profound and emotionally compelling.
