Italian Film Night returns on Tuesday, August 12, at 7 pm at Meta House with a special free screening of Il Treno dei Bambini, Cristina Comencini’s poignant 2024 drama adapted from Viola Ardone’s bestseller.
Set in post–World War II Italy, the film follows a group of young orphans from Naples as they board a northbound train in search of temporary foster families in the sun-drenched Tuscan countryside. Serena Rossi (Cristiana) and Barbara Ronchi (Professor Guerrini) lead a caring team of volunteers who guide the children through unfamiliar stations and tender good-byes, forging unexpected bonds along the way. With touching performances from Christian Cervone and Stefano Accorsi, Comencini’s lush cinematography captures both the hardship and hope of a nation rebuilding itself.
